The first thing that comes to mind when someone says Thailand is “Budget Vacation”. It is true that Thailand is a destination that draws the tourists who are on a shoe string budget. But that is not all this beautiful, tropical paradise is about. For those of you with money to spend there’s a different Thailand awaiting you at your leisure and this one is so sumptuous and luxurious that you might not see it again as just a Mecca for backpackers or the cheapest way to get a visa stamped on your passport. Now it’s time to amp up the budget and enjoy a first class vacation in Thailand.
First let’s fly to Koh Samui to experience some world class luxury. Koh Samui or Samui Island is a cosmopolitan hotpot, you’ll find the budget stays where you can stay a month or luxury villas that cost more for a weekend than your boss makes in a month! Either way, if you have enough ‘dough’ to pay we’ve found some villas where you can play.
Albeit a considerably new development; Villa Maya has the distinction of built so that you can view most parts of the island from one place, something that not all places can boast of. Though they share a beach with the 5-star Six Senses resort; it’s fabulous! You can see all the way to Koh Phangan and across to the main part of the island from their villas. Rental prices depends on the kind of villas you want, they range from 100 dollars to a few millions! But forget the price for a moment, just imagine waking up to sound of waves crashing into the crescent shaped beach, endless expanse of blue skies and ocean and the faraway outline of the main island in the horizon! If that isn’t a view worth killing for, we don’t know what is! The villa Maya is isolated so you might want to stock up on food and be prepared to cook or the alternatives are the overpriced Six Senses restaurant or get a cab after a long wait. All you have to do is soak up some sun next to their picturesque private pool while you wait.
Mandalay Beach Villas
Now this is heaven on earth in the form of villas which area work of art. The three bedroom villas come with private chefs, a maid, and private beaches and not to mention an amazing pool. After all it is luxurious island life we are looking for, so why not a pool and the beach together, huh? If the sheer perfection of your surroundings and villa don’t overwhelm you the food and the Apple TV surely will! You might not even venture out to explore the island after all, these villas are that gorgeous and it will twist your heart to let go when you have to leave. These are isolated too and you’ll need a car to get around if you want do some sightseeing. But the upside is that since the resort comes with staff, they will get you anything you need and you can order from their extensive a la carte menu and they’ll cook and dish it up right there in your kitchen. Everything that they do, the Mandalay Beach Villas do it absolutely right! This is luxurious living at its best; you will not be disappointed for sure!
It is said that the gentle sounds of the waves lapping onto the sand is therapeutic. If so, Villa Manola should be your next destination. Oh, did we mention that you get a personal chef too who comes as part of your reservation! This is Island life at its best. Just while away the time ensconced in the overstuffed sofas till it’s time to go home.
Now we move onto Phuket. Phuket is to Thailand what Goa is to India! Sure it has its share of wild backpacker parties, ladyboys and budget accommodation but it also has some stunning private properties that offer you another look into a misunderstood island.
Located in the area of the island called Kata Beach, Kata Rocks is an all villa resort. And an expensive one at that, they range from about $1000 for a regular villa to $4000 for the penthouse 4-bedroom villa. Pretty steep, isn’t it. But well worth the money because the villa itself is a modern work of art, but the outdoor pool will melt even the most hard hearted of them all. This resort is perched on a steep hillside and you’ll need to travel by the resort’s buggy to get anywhere. Apparently their main pool in front of the bar and restaurant is one of the most photogenic pools and Kata Rocks was voted one of the most Instagrammable hotels in the world because of it. Talk about famous pools! For the connoisseur in you, the resort produces their own gin. Go ahead and enjoy a bespoke gin experience. The food accompanied by the views in front are both spectacular and promise to make your vacation unforgettable.
Benyasiri at Samsara
This all glass and chrome villa is perched majestically atop the private Samsara peninsula like an Eyrie and like the eagle that lives in the eyrie; you have at your command panoramic views over Patong Harbor and the glorious Andaman Sea. This luxurious modern villa features expansive living and entertainment areas and the best part is the upper living and dining rooms that open directly onto dramatic wraparound outdoor decks. They have a stunning 14 meter infinity-edge pool with glass panels along its bottom which look into the room below. A small path from the pool deck leads to a large open-air detached traditional Thai Sala that is perfect for soaking up the rays of Phuket’s legendary sunsets. The living area offers a serene vista over the sea to the colourful mountains beyond. Priced around $1,900 - $3,500 / night for about 10 people, it’s quite expensive but well worth the money.
Villa Wang Nam Jai
Villa Wang Nam Jai is one of the most exclusive retreats in Phuket and you’ll find it carved into the cliff face in the quiet and protected development of Jomchang at the end of Millionaire’s Mile. This villa offers you breathtaking views of the Andaman Sea and Patong right from its grand wooden doors. Beautiful water features flow gracefully down each side of the staircase and fragrant flowers the frangipani trees escort you as you are guided along a path into the main living space. The mirror like infinity pool which seems to dissolve straight into the ocean invites you for a refreshing dip or if you’re more adventurous, follow the illuminated path (which seems magical)down through the trees to the shore where you can swim or snorkel to your heart’s content. Wang Nam Jai is a good and eclectic mix of Asian and Western architecture. It can house up to 10 guests and costs around $990 - $2,900 / night.
Now all that’s left for you to do is decide where to go! If you can’t decide, go to all of them! But just go, don’t dilly dally around for others!
